Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
I conducted genome-wide SNP analysis of Negrito groups in Southeast Asia and found some shared genes between various Negrito groups in Malaysia, Philippines and Andaman are linked to common phenotypes seen in these groups.I also found traces of ancient admixture with archaic humans, the Denisovans, in Philippine Negritos but not Malaysian and Andamanese Negritos. These results have been presented in several local and international meetings, and will be submitted soon for publication. I have also visited and established contact with possible collaborators in Malaysia for collection of additional DNA samples.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Genome wide SNP analysis of Negrito groups in Southeast Asia has been progressing smoothly and a manuscript has been prepared for submission to a prominent journal.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
After completing genome-wide SNP analysis, I plan on focusing on targeted sequencing of immune-related loci in several Malaysian groups, including Negritos. If my research proposal is approved by the collaborators in Malaysia, I plan to visit several sites in Malaysia to collect additional DNA samples.
