Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Genome-wide SNP analysis of Negrito populations from Southeast Asia was completed. Comparing this data with other human populations, the Negritos were phylogenetically basal to other Southeast and East Asians, with divergence times estimated to be at least 30 thousand years ago. The Philippine Negritos showed relatively high traces of Denisovan ancestry, but not in Malaysian or Andamanese Negritos. Some of the SNP that were shared between all Negrito groups were associated with height, facial morphology and malarial resistance. There results were published in Genome Biology and Evolution in 2017. Sequencing of HLA genes in seven populations from Malaysia using HiSeq sequencer was completed. Data analysis of these data has been completed and manuscript preparation of these data is ongoing.
