Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Pathogens secrete virulent proteins, termed effectors, that are delivered into plant cells, resulting in establishment of infection. To detect pathogen effectors, plants have evolved receptors called Resistance (R) proteins, resulting in resistance to pathogens. This study uncovered a downy mildew effector, AvrRPP4, recognized by Arabidopsis R gene RPP4, and that its unrecognised alleles evade recognition by polymorphism of expression and subcellular localization.
