Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Condensed tannin is a polymeric polyphenol abundantly contained in many barks and has high antioxidant activity in liquid phase. Antioxidative acitivity in vapor phase of tannin was examined with nitrogen dioxide which is a representative air pollutant. Tannin decreased oxidation of linolic acid by nitrogen dioxide, while catechin, a polyphenol monomer, had little antioxidative activity. Additionally, tannin had NO2 removal activity, B-ring structure contributed NO2 removal activity and electron-donating substituent on B-ring enhanced NO2 removal activity.
