| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
I investigated the effect of metformin on pancreatic beta cells. Metformin directly suppressed overload of beta cells induced by High-fat diet feeding or endoplasmic reticulum stress. Furthermore, metformin suppressed central necrosis of beta cells. Therefore, the results suggested that metformin has a protective effect on beta cells. It is possible that metformin is useful drug for islet transplantation.
