Outline of Final Research Achievements

The family caregivers of cancer patients has been suffering from a variety of distress from the time of diagnosis with the patient. Support to maintain and improve the quality of life (QOL) of the family caregiver is very important.The purpose of this study is to clarify the elements of family caregiver's QOL and to explore the factors leading to the improvement of family caregiver's QOL. Based on literature review of QOL components and similar concepts, discussion with overseas researchers, we created a list of items measure family QOL.In addition to that, we conducted qualitative analysis of the free description of the questionaire survey targetting bereaved families.
From these results, we clarified the important viewpoint in the nursing support program implementation for the family caregivers.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

家族介入の効果検証を目的とした調査研究や縦断研究においては、健康関連QOLの測定以外にも、療養生活を送る患者の家族に特化した家族のQOLの測定が必要である。しかし、類似概念を複数測定することによる被調査者の時間的精神的な負担が課題であった。本研究を通じて、QOLを構成する要素の抽出と類似概念の整理検討を行ったことで、家族の意向や状況を把握した上での支援をすすめていくことが可能となる。
