Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Efficient generation and expansion of human iPS cell-derived alveolar type II cells was achieved. The rate of SFTPC+ cells per total epithelial cells reached around 50 % and iPS cell-derived SFTPC+ cells were long-term cultured for more than three months. We applied these methods to disease modeling of Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome. Abnormal lamellar body structure was observed in human iPS cell-derived alveolar type II cells. Human iPS cell-derived alveolar type II cells would be beneficial for disease modeling of pulmonary fibrosis.
