本国際共同研究では、インドネシア国立スラバヤ大学（滞在期間：平成29年6月～8月）および米国ミシガン大学・東南アジア研究所（平成29年8月～平成30年3月）の二つの拠点にて研究活動を実施した。国立スラバヤ大学では芸術言語研究所の音楽学者バンバン・スギト氏との協働で中世ジャワのヒンドゥー寺院の浮彫壁画に残された楽器描写の分析作業を行った。ミシガン大学では音楽学者ジュディス・ベッカー氏の協力のもと、前述の分析をヒンドゥー・ジャワ時代の音楽文化にまつわるより多角的な視野から発展させるとともに、植民地時代におけるバリ音楽文化研究の構築を俯瞰的にとらえなおす研究を行った。以上の研究成果は、論文「Music Icons and Theatrical Dynamism:The Reliefs of Candi Penataran in East Java, Indonesia」（Music in Art : International Journal for Music Iconography, vol. 2018, ed. by Research Center for Music Iconography of the City University of New York, 掲載決定）、国際学会発表「Reading Music Icons within a Theatrical Dynamism: The Reliefs of Candi Penataran in East Java, Indonesia」(The 44th ICTM World Conference, Venue: The University of Limerick, Ireland)、「Divine Music from Ancient Bali: Gamelan Selonding and the Colonial Myth」(The 62th Symposium of Society for Ethnomusicology/ Venue: Denver, USA)として発信した。以上の国際共同研究は、インドネシアでの現地調査で得た無形文化と有形文化の接合点に関する知見を米国ミシガン大学東南アジア研究所の豊富な研究資料からさらに深めることができた点で、達成度の高い結果となった。
