| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
本研究および基研究で設定した5つのサブテーマのうち，H29年度は波ー流れ相互作用，サブメソスケール現象，海洋物質分散モデリングの高度化，データ同化モジュール開発と運用の4項目に関する技術開発等を行うために，H28年から引き続きH29年9月半ばまでの合計約1年間にわたって申請者が米国UCLAに滞在し，同校のMcWilliams教授，Cigdem Akan博士らと共同研究を行った．UCLA滞在中は，基研究の実施を通じて滞在前から開始していた砕波帯モデリングと，陸棚-砕波帯相互作用に関するモデリングを行い，UCLAのポスドク研究員や博士課程学生を交えて3次元離岸流の力学構造，極低周波変動現象の発生機構，サブメソスケール組織構造に及ぼす波浪の影響などに関する研究を行った．その成果の一部はすでに国際共著論文としてまとめ，Journal of Geophysical Research - Oceans，Journal of Physical Oceanographyなどに投稿し，掲載されている．さらにH29年度内の米国滞在期間中も計5回の一時帰国を行い，国内共同研究機関とも密接に連携を保ちながら，黒潮流域周辺の渦フラックスと一次生産との関係，ダウンスケールモデル技術の高度化，台風に伴う黒潮流露変動と瀬戸内海流動への影響，物質分散モデリング技術の高精度化をベースにした大阪湾・播磨灘海域における水質シミュレーションなどに関する研究を同時並行的に進めた．それらの成果はいずれも国際ジャーナル論文として投稿し，前掲の国際共同研究と合わせてH29年度内だけで合計9編のWoS国際誌への掲載が決定している．

Reason
渡航により多くのエフォートを本研究の実施に振り分けることができていること，10年以上にわたって継続的に連携してきたUCLAのMcWilliams教授および研究員や博士課程学生らと日常的に議論が行えたことの主に2つの理由により，飛躍的に研究が進展しているものと考えている．また，H29年9月の帰国後もUCLAとは緊密に連携を保ち，砕波帯－陸棚相互作用，沿岸域物質分散などに関する共同研究を継続して推進しているところである．

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
H29年度は，陸棚上におけるサブメソスケール渦ー波流れ相互作用の干渉に伴うフィラメント構造の抑制機構に関する研究，海岸線および海底地形の非一様性が海浜流の発達過程に及ぼす影響に関する研究，沿岸域物質分散モデリングの高度化に関する研究を押し進め，UCLA滞在期間中に論文としてまとめ，採択・掲載へと至った．継続中の砕波帯－陸棚相互作用などに関する共同研究に関しても鋭意推進しているところであり，近々に論文として取りまとめる予定である．一方，メソスケール同化技術に関しても3次元変分同化法をROMSに組み込むことに成功しており，瀬戸内海をテストベッドに開発をほぼ終了し，H30年度には論文化する予定である．5つのサブテーマのうち，多段双方向ネスティングの実装に関しては，フランスIRD側カウンターパートのMarchesiello博士の異動に伴い十分な対応が取れていない．H30年度にはこれに関しても推進していくことを計画している．
