Research Abstract

弾性波速度測定に関しては、玄武岩物質・MgO焼結体に対して系統的な実験をおこない、現在論文として投稿中である。更に、昨年度示唆されたマントル遷移層下部でのハルツバージャイトの存在可能性を検討するため、この組成を用いた高温高圧相転移実験とそれに伴う密度・弾性波速度の見積もりをおこないつつある。また、高温下での部分熔融体の弾性波速度測定を目指し、超音波測定技術開発をおこなった。電気伝導度測定に関しては、部分熔融ペリドタイトの電気伝導度異方性に関する測定をおこない、海洋底アセノスフェアの異方性が部分熔融体の存在により説明可能であることを示した。一方、スラブのレオロジー関係に関する課題として、比較的低圧下でのアナログ物質を用いたかんらん石の変形実験をおこない、相転移に伴う強度変化測定をおこなった。またスプリング8に導入した単色化装置を活用し、IPによるX線回折データから高温高圧下での差応力の見積もり、およびその緩和過程の観察を可能にした。更に水の影響に関しては、スラブおよび周囲のマントル間での水の分配をすべての主要高圧相間に対して測定をおこなった。また、410km付近における含水メルトの存在可能性に関しても部分熔融実験に基づき検討をおこない、これに否定的な結果を得ている。本研究により、特にマントル遷移層領域条件下における弾性波速度・電気伝導度・レオロジーの精密測定技術の開発が世界に先駆けて確立され、沈み込むスラブのこの領域における滞留過程に対して、重要な実験的制約がなされるとともに、マントル遷移層の化学組成や水の存在に関して新しいモデルが提出され、今後その更なる検証が待たれるところである。
