低次元微小構造体の界面破壊

Research Abstract

微小材料は低次元構造を有しており、バルク材とは異なる物性を示す。また、多様な機能を発現させるためには異材の組み合わせが必要であるが、その界面は強度が低く複雑な破壊が進行する。本研究では、低次元微小構造体の界面破壊実験観察と力学解析を行い、その破壊特性を解明することを目的としている。とくに、精密に形状を制御した多層微小カンチレバー試験片を準備し、透過型電子顕微鏡に組み込んだ負荷試験装置による界面端(界面が自由表面と会合する部分)からのき裂発生過程のその場観察を行っている。昨年度までは、特異応力場の支配領域が100nm前後の実験を行ってきた。本年度は、銅膜厚を20nmに設定して特異応力場の支配領域を30nm前後に制御した界面端き裂発生試験を実施した。実験は成功し、その弾性応力解析はその特異応力場が破壊を支配していることを示した。ただし、局所の塑性変形が影響を及ぼしている可能性があり、銅薄膜の構成式を実験的に精密に求める方法を開発しており、その結果を導入した解析を行っている。分子動力学解析において、2層が明確に分離している界面(きれいな界面)においては、数nmの特異応力場が界面端き裂発生を支配していることが示唆されている。本研究の一連の実験結果と合せて、当初の予想に反して、ナノ構造体界面においても破壊力学概念がかなり適用できることが明らかになってきた。一方、多数のナノ要素を組合わせることによって薄膜等を作成する技術が開発されている。このような材料を低次元構造体として界面に取り込んだ場合の特殊な応力場について、検討を始めた。ナノスプリング要素で構成した薄膜によって界面端特異応力場が消失することを世界で初めて発見し、注目されている。
