Research Abstract

The project carries out theoretical and experimental studies of thermal history at the stages of molecular clouds to planet formation with the use of crystallization of dust as a tool. Focuses are placed on 1) analyses of crystalline structure of dust formed in the controlled conditions and measurements of infrared spectra; 2) measurements and derivation of key parameters of crystallizations such as activation energies of crystallization and diffusion of molecules, 3) study of elementary processes of crystalline nucleation and growth, 4) formulation of crystallization conditions in astrophysical environment, and 5) comparison with observations.
A system of dust formation simulating circumstellar conditions and the analysis of its crystalline structure for 1) is constructed in a lab of Ritsumeikan University. in the study 2), analyses of the experiment of crystallization of melts of silicate composition the levitation was carried out. We derived activation energies of crystallization and diffusion of molecules from the analysis and modeling of the experiment. For 3) and 4), we found out a novel mechanism of nonthermal crystallization of silicate and confirmed it to work by the experiment. We carries out modeling of a debris dust disk around a young main-sequence star beta PiC and dust in a star-forming region Orion nebula for 5).
