Research Abstract |
For Greek epistolary literature, Nakatsukasa has observed the significant influences of various literary genres, such as Hellenistic poetry, New Comedy and history, on Alciphron's Letters, Philostratus' Love Letters and Images, and Aristaenetus' Erotic Letters. For Latin epistolary literature, Takahashi has edited an anthology of Cicero's letters in Japanese translation, published a translation of Seneca's Moral Epistles 1-80 with an introduction and notes and an article considering the self-conscious expression of classical tradition in Seneca's Letters, attempted a translation of Horace's Epistles, and observed Ovid's humor and wit in the Heroides.
