Research Abstract |
Lucius Annaeus Seneca, known as Seneca the Younger because of the fame of his father, was a Roman senator, a man of letters, an influential political mentor to the last emperor, Nero of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, and a philosopher My research aimed at the great meaning and the deep influence, which Seneca's tragedies expressed and conveyed towards European culture. In Rome there were many tragedies besides Seneca. But we cannot read complete contents of the tragic works only in the case of Seneca. Why has this strange phenomenon happened? Perhaps this happening owes to the greatness of philosopher Seneca. At the same time we must research the Roman character or Roman originality in Seneca's dramas. Seneca's dramas serve as the only connecting link between ancient and modern tragedy. The powerful influence of his dramas surpass the Greek tragedies. His tragedies. His tragedies express not only the Roman mentality, but also fresh modernity. My research was seeking to dig and explain both the historical background and eternal value which Seneca's literature embrace and display.
