Research Abstract |
This paper describes planning of residential area properly related to the neighborhood from the viewpoint of estimation of manteau space, which has function to keep the house environment good condition, by the inhabitants and the visitors and crime prevention through environmental design based on the investigation in the detached house area in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo. The main results are as follows : 1 The psychological evaluation structure consists of three factors, "openness", "security", "intimacy" for inhabitants and university students; "intimacy","openness", "security" for junior high school students; incidences of the crime have a tendency to increase in the area where the degree of "intimacy" of the manteau space is lower. 2 The more the borders of house site have aspects of closeness to the street, the more whole of neighborhood is inclined to be closed; residents living along the street close their sites and houses to protect their privacy and security; but crimes tend to be occurred in the area where the borders of house site have aspects of closeness to the street ; neighborhood composed by the houses whose borders of house site have low enclosedness to the street and the adjacent lot, and whose living room window is faced to the street, makes it hard for thief to intrude. 3 House design points which we show based on our results and the ways of general CPTED are considered significant and valuable to be adopted by the inhabitants, i.e., to make the borders of house site open enough to watch each other from the house and the street, and from the house and the adjacent house, to set living room window faced to the street, to make parking appearance open to the street, to emphasize the territory by designing the approach to entrance.
