Research Abstract |
We have been developing a new power generation system which used both solar light energy and heat energy. The efficiency of this system was larger than conventional photovoltaic cells. This system was composed by four kind of thin films such as (1) solar thin films of CdS/CdTe prepared by Molecular Beam Epitaxy, (2) thermoelectric thin films of BiTe (n-type: Se-doped, p-type: Sb-doped) by Pulsed Laser Deposition(PLD), (3) insulator film of SiO_2 by RF-sputtering, and (4) thin film electrodes of Aluminum composite by PLD. Surface morphology and crystallization of all thin films was observed by Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-ray Diffraction. Good surface flatness and crystallization of al films were observed. The characteristic of every film were measured. 1. Solar cell : (1) photo-voltage was 0.15 V, (2) maximum power wavelength at visible light. 2. Thermoelectric films : (1) maximum Seebeck coefficient S was 250 mV/K, (2) maximum figure of merit ZT at 333 K was above 1. 2, (3) thermal conductivity k at 333 K was about 1.0 W/(mK). 3. Insulator film : Resitvity was above 10^7 Ω・m. We constructed the new hybrid power generation system laminated by solar, thermoelectric, insulator and conductor thin films fabricated by MBE, PLD or RF-sputtering. We could measure the photo-voltage and thermal voltage at same time. These values were lower than that of single film. For example photo-voltage was 4.0 mV and Seebeck coefficient were 1.0~13μV・K‐^1 at 30-90℃. We could improve in decrease of leak-current, adhesion between attacked films.
