Research Abstract

We conducted a longitudinal study to assess the relationship between incidents and psychosocial factors among nurses.
Content of investigation
(1) Demographic data (age, living situations, drinking habit, work situations etc. )
(2) Frequency of near misses and accidents experienced recent in six months.
(3) The nursing stress scale
(4) Self-efficacy scale
(5) Effort-reward imbalance model: The balance of the subjective effort and the reward (reward on an economical reward, a psychological reward, and the career side) is measured. (23 items)
(6) Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale(HADS)
The results of logistic regression analysis showed that depression of nurses was significantly related to medical incidents caused by nurses. Depression of nurses was significantly associated to self-efficacy, over commitment, support from surroundings, work related stress. This research was a first root cause analysis to identify the cause of nursing error. To prevent nurses from human error, prevention of depression was indispensable.
