Research Abstract |
Practical methods for the radiation protection of medical co-workers and also patient's family including volunteer who take care the patient in the PET examination with FDG were evaluated. In the basic study, the external radiation dose from the radioactive patients who were injected positron radiopharmaceuticals was measured by using the robot phantom almost the same as 70kg body weight adult. The radiation dose to the medical co-workers became average radiation dose of 0.294 to 0.769μSv for one FDG/PET study in patients with mean dose of 200MBq. The main factors of radiation protection for the medical stuff in the clinical study of FDG/PET is thought to be how to treat the radiopharmaceuticals and radioactive patients in the short time, how to keep the distance from the positron source including the hot patients and also how to use the shields designed for positron emitter with lead and/or tungsten. The cold run study to master the adequate technique is also important to minimize the internal and external radiation dose. The educational system of radiation safety should be organize and keep the safety control in each PET clinic under the adviser of radiation protection.
