Research Abstract

Medical studies in this century are highly dependent on development of new medical materials. The present study is focused on solving problems due to synthetic materials by using natural peptides derived from insects with special reference to such biological properties as the anti-oxidant and suppression of tumor formation with silk sericine from cocoon.
Another purpose of this study is to suppress protein-dependent anaphylactic shocks by lowering molecular weight of silk proteins and accordingly to afford safe application of the proteins to medical therapy. This can be classified as an advanced hybridization of medical materials.
We succeeded in preparation of low molecular weight silk proteins by another project research. It was found that the low molecular proteins derived from silk has no anaphylactic shocks but excellent medical activities. Thus, we carried out a study on analyses of structure and biological activities of this particular low molecular weight silk proteins prior to the goal of the present study on development of super hybrid drug delivery system.
As a result, it was found that the newly found proteins have unique amino acid components and such biological properties as anti-inflammation and healing. It is therefore concluded that the particular low molecular weight silk proteins are promising materials for developing the superhybrid drug delivery system.
