Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research is for the artificial teeth arch of the complete denture to investigate what kind of role is played in a swallowing function. The complete denture, which can remove the artificial teeth arch for an experiment, was produced, and occlusal force, tongue pressure, muscle activity (masseter, suprahyoid-muscles group), the mandibular movement, and the laryngeal elevation were measured synchronously. Swallowing conditions were considered as the time of directions swallowing (water, pudding) and free digestion swallowing (corned beef). 1.Muscle activity Only maximum of masseter activity was influenced, and the activity with the artificial teeth arch became large. As for muscle activity time, masseter and suprahyoid-muscles group were not influenced. In test foods, masseter and suprahyoid-muscles group had the significantly large active mass in corned beef. 2.Tongue pressure Maximum of tongue pressure was influenced in the lateral part of the palate, and, as for tongue pressure, the pressure with the artificial teeth arch became large. In the difference in test foods, the size of the tongue pressure of corned beef was significantly large. Only in water swallowing and pudding swallowing, the difference of the time at the time the tongue pressure maximum and laryngeal elevation was influenced by the existence of the artificial teeth arch, and the influence by the part of tongue pressure was not recognized.
