| Research Abstract |
1. Current status of group homes, day care cervices and the effects of the use of cosmetic on caring of old people were investigated in terms of case studies, immune function, the Atherosclerosis Index, effects on informal caregivers as well as formal caregivers.
2. A fundamental study was conducted to investigate the physiologic / psychological reactions regarding the use of cosmetic (Kitagawa ＆ Hitomi, 2006). The study discussed about the psychological changes, brain activities, and the effects on autonomic nervous function after the use of lip sticks which are easy to use. As a result of the use of lip sticks, psychological changes including mood elevation and developing a positive attitude are found which support literatures. However, these kinds of changes are suggested to have not significance influence on the brain activities and autonomic nervous function. We have submitted the paper.
3. We participated to the 20-22-^<nd> International Conference of Alzheimer' s disease in Kyoto, Istanpul, Berlin, and gained information of the dementia care around the world. We conducted a pilot study whish investigates the relationship between attitudes toward dementia-related aggression and burnout syndrome among care staff working for a dementia care unit of a mental hospital A. Staff who have negative attitudes towards dementia-related aggression have a tendency of burnout syndrome. The result indicates that the strategies of nursing investigation and staff education regarding dementia care are required (Hitomi, Nakahira, Nakamura et al., 2006). Another study was conducted among 1,500 care staff in Osaka and Sanin area. We also conducted the study by using alternative therapy in aged care units of hospitals as well as nursing homes, and found the positive effects on people with dementia and their family caregivers.
