Research Abstract

The purpose of this study was to make facilitating communication programs for each senile elderly that focuses on voice characteristics of speech (pitch, volume, intonation) and clarified effects of environmental noises in welfare facilities.
We informed subjects objects, got consent, they were two senile elderly, ten care staff members.
At first year, we suggested that the potential communication program being able to be used in the formulation of care plan. We measured noises for 24 hours in welfare facilities. Noises that cause old people's shout, rising from their chair, TV volume, care staff member's footsteps would be able to solve at once.
Further we compared the differences of three kinds of music (classic, rock, song) and physiological reaction as a basic study. It was showed that systolic blood pressures changed slightly every music sounds in cases of 5 senile elderly who live grope homes. Almost of them preferred song to others. At second year, we made facilitating communication sheets for senile elderly and used them for three months. We assessed MENFIS (Mental Impairment Functional Scale), NM Scale (NM-shiki scale) activity of daily living scale before and after intervention.
We used this sheet when conversing with senile elderly, she got a significant score on communicating, other point did not change. one of two senile stopped scoring on the way, because she was in the hospital.
As a result, evidences of using sheet were not identified, we will continue this study.
