Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Dr. Meng started to work with Dr. Sato since the end of November 2016. During these four months, she gradually got used to the life in Japan; she learnt about the exciting current projects of other group members, the working culture, and the operation of new experimental instruments.
For the project, the first two months were spent for studying the field of potential projects by reading papers; we had discussions to create dynamic metal-organic framework in order to answer the question how to make a solid material more responsive towards external stimuli so as to expand its practical application such as catalyst, sensor, and storage.
The experimental work began two months ago after the target molecules were designed, one of the challenges is the low yield of a key reaction during the synthesis of the target molecule. This reaction was then performed more than 30 times in order to optimize the reaction condition, and finally one of the target molecules was successfully prepared. During preliminary trials in creating metal-organic framework, this target molecule generated interesting 1D coordination polymer in the solid state which has quite a few novel features in comparison to those reported in the literature.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
来日後数ヶ月の間に、目的とする配位子および錯体合成に成功し、さらに単結晶構造解析にも成功しており、おおむね順調に進展している。

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Future plan: since the preliminary experiments for the current project produced promising results, the project will be continued. Efforts will be made first towards the completion of the synthesis of all the target molecules and then the investigation of their behavior in the creation of metal-organic framework. For the coordination polymer obtained during the recent preliminary trials, we aim to create a comprehensive story that is good enough for a decent publication by exploring its dynamic property.
