Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、遷移金属酸化物に焦点をあて、通常では得ることのできない非平衡準安定な物質相までを含めて、カチオン配列制御と酸素配位構造制御という2つの観点からの新物質の創製を試みてきた。特に、高圧合成、原子層薄膜作製、さらには低温トポタクティック物質変換を加えたユニークな固体化学的合成手法を駆使した新物質合成とそこで現れる特性に関して、構造変化との相関を検討した。
オゾンによる強い酸化雰囲気下でトポタクティックに合成して得られたBサイトのカチオンが秩序配列したCa2FeMnO6を用いて、異常高原子価状態の還元による解消に伴う酸素の脱離過程を明らかにすることに成功した。Bサイトのカチオンの高原子価状態はFe4+の還元が優先的に起こり、その結果、層状秩序配列に応じた層選択的な酸素の脱離過程とそれに伴う結晶構造の変化が明らかになった。
原子層単位で成長を制御したエピタキシャル薄膜では、遍歴強磁性を示すペロブスカイト構造SrRuO3に注目し、磁気輸送特性に加え熱電特性の評価を行った。この薄膜では構造ミスマッチが界面での酸素配位構造変化で緩和され、これに起因する物性変化が現れる。特に、今期はこの薄膜試料の熱電特性を測定し、これまでの電気的・磁気的特性に加えて、電子物性と相関した熱的な特性にも特徴的な振る舞いが現れることを初めて明らかにした。
本研究課題は最終年度であったが、多角的な合成手法と評価手法を揃えた固体化学研究が遂行できる環境を整えることができた。これにより、幾つかの新物質の合成の成功と興味深い物性を明らかにすることができたとともに、本研究課題での中心的なテーマであった構造と物性の相関についても今後の物質開発に繋がる成果を得ることができた。
