Outline of Annual Research Achievements

衛星から得られる観測情報と，数値エアロゾルモデルによるシミュレーションを統合し，より精度の高いエアロゾルの４次元分布を得るために，以下の３つのチームで研究を行った。
静止衛星エアロゾルリトリーバルチームは，2015年に運用を開始したひまわり８号の観測データからエアロゾル光学的パラメータ（エアロゾル光学的厚さやオングストローム指数）をリトリーブするアルゴリズムの開発を行った。ひまわり８号から得られる高頻度情報を有効に活用するため，10分おきのスナップショット（L2プロダクト）から１時間のコンポジットデータ（L3プロダクト）を作成するアルゴリズムを開発した。開発したアルゴリズムから計算されたエアロゾル光学的パラメータをエアロゾルデータ同化チームに提供した。
エアロゾルデータ同化チームは，２次元変分法を基礎としたエアロゾル同化／予測システムの開発を行った。静止衛星エアロゾルリトリーバルチームから提供されたひまわり８号の観測データを用いた予備的なデータ同化・予測実験を行い，黄砂イベントや大規模越境大気汚染イベントを対象にひまわり８号データの同化予測へのインパクトを評価した。また，同化／予測システムを定常的に運営するルーチンの設計を行った。
同化手法の高度化チームは，観測データに含まれる情報をより用いるための新しい同化理論の検討を行った。濃度だけではなく粒径分布の情報も拘束するために，複数の波長の観測を用いた同化システムの設計を行った。

Reason

ひまわり８号からのエアロゾル光学的パラメータをリトリーブする手法，コンポジットデータ作成手法の開発は初期バージョンが完成し，定常的なエアロゾル光学的パラメータの計算が行われている。ひまわり８号のデータ同化についても，顕著なエアロゾル現象を対象に同化予測実験とその結果の検証・考察を実施しており，リトリーブ手法や同化手法，エアロゾル輸送モデルの問題点とその改善方法を具体的に議論する段階に至っている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

静止衛星エアロゾルリトリーバルチームは，エアロゾル光学的パラメータのリトリーブ，コンポジットデータ作成の本格的な定常処理を開始し，エアロゾルデータ同化チームに定常的なデータの提供を開始する。
エアロゾルデータ同化チームは毎日のエアロゾル同化／予測システムを開発し，静止衛星エアロゾルリトリーバルチームから提供されるデータの同化／予測の定常運用を開始する。特に顕著なエアロゾルイベントを対象に独立観測データを用いた検証を行い，データ同化手法だけではなく，エアロゾロモデル，リトリーバル手法，データの品質管理などの問題の洗い出しと改善法作の検討を行い，それぞれの精度の向上を目指す。同化手法の高度化チームは，多波長データ同化システムの設計とシステムの開発を行う。
