Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The aim of this study was to trace, in support of concrete examples, the process in which the transformation of the traditional poetic form, motivated by the awareness of the dissociation between fixed verses and poetic emotions, leads to the rise of free verse on the one hand, and the development of prose poem and poetic prose on the other. The main task was to elucidate the characteristics of modern French poetry, such as prosaic use of verse, prosody that remained in prose, privilege of metaphor, and the importance of irony and self-irony, and even the aesthetics and ethics that sustain them. Modern poetry attempted to break away from romantic poetics and stereotyped verses at the same time. We found that the most fertile and creative works from this point of view were made by poets and writers lying on the margins of literary movements such as symbolism, surrealism or existentialism, rather than by those who directed them.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
