Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of the present study was to develop three English CALL teaching materials which help Japanese college English learners understand global Englishes around the World. Filming was done at the University of Alabama (US), Imperial College London / Queen　Mary　University　of　London　/　Arts　University　Bournemouth　(UK),　and Monash　University (Australia). The courseware was developed by the collaboration of Japanese English teachers and English native teachers. The developed CALL materials will be used online for the students who wish to study abroad in the world.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

千葉大学では，音声コミュニケーションの基礎能力を聴解力と捉え，米，英，加，豪でビデオ収録を行い．数多くのCALL教材を開発してきた．しかグローバル化を迎えた我が国においては，英語を母国語としない人々の英語を理解する能力の養成も急務である．外国語として英語を話す場合は，当然母国語の母音体系，子音体系，超文節音素体系，音節体系などの影響が現れ，日本人英語大学生にとってそれらを理解することは必ずしも容易なことではない．そこで本研究では米，英，豪の大学で学ぶ各国からの留学生のインタビューをもとに３種のCALL教材の開発を行った．これらのCALL教材の開発は他に例を見ない，独自のものである．
