5月にゲオルク・エッカート国際教科書研究所フェローのアンドレアス・ヴァイス氏をドイツより招聘し、「近代性と旧帝国―ドイツ帝国と日本、新帝国は旧帝国をいかに見ていたか」（Modernity and an old Empire: The German Empire and Japan or how a new Empire looked on an old “one”）というテーマで報告をしていただき、本科研のテーマである「間-帝国」についてメンバー全員で議論した。また1月の研究会では間-帝国史に関する理論・方法論的文献を輪読し、共同研究の枠組について確認した。3月には、これまでの研究成果をまとめ、その一部を一般に公開すべく公開国際ワークショップ「比較を超えて：間-帝国的（trans-imperial）視座からの日本植民地研究」を開催した。海外協力者の東栄一郎（ペンシルバニア大学）、Nadin Hee（ベルリン自由大学）、Daniel Hedinger（ルートヴィヒ・マクシミリアン大学ミュンヘン）の各氏、および本科研のメンバーである水谷智（代表）と吉田信（分担）が研究報告を行った（詳細はhttp://trans-imperial.site/meetings-symposia/を参照）。（尚、上記の研究会・ワークショップはすべて同志社大学で行われた。）
本科研の成果公開のひとつの試みとして海外の学術雑誌に特集号の企画書を提出し、12月にアクセプトされた。4人のメンバーが12月から3月にかけて、投稿論文の執筆にあたった。
