Outline of Final Research Achievements

Whenever historians gather together to study various empires in a collaborative setting, they tend to conduct ‘comparative research’, first treating each of the empires separately and then compare them later. In contrast, our group took a ‘trans-imperial’ approach. Rather than merely comparing different empires, we tried to describe and analyze how the different empires in question interacted with one another in their (trans-)formations, and how they themselves used comparison as a medium to engage in such interactions. The results of our research were presented at several symposiums and workshops before finally published in an international academic journal.
