Outline of Annual Research Achievements

今日、製薬産業によって製造された薬剤・医薬が生のさまざまな場面に浸透している。
本研究の目的は、こうした医薬がどのような社会関係や政治を媒介するのか、また主体性を生み出すのかを比較民族誌的に検討することであった。具体的には、免疫抑制剤、イベルメクチン、糖尿病治療薬、抗HIV/AIDs薬、鎮痛剤、向精神薬など、多用な薬剤をとりあげつつ、研究分担者がフィリピン、ガーナ、エチオピア、イタリア、タイ、日本で現地調査を実施し、学会誌での特集号や国際ワークショップでの成果発表を行ってきた。
とくに最終年度は、前年度までの調査のフォローアップを行うとともに、研究成果をまとめ公表するための活動を行った。前年度の二つの国際ワークショップでの成果を踏まえ、国際学会(international Union of Ethnological and Anthropological Societies)で分科会発表Vital Experiments; Living (and dying) with Pharmaceuticalsを組織し、研究分担者が海外研究協力者と共同し、本研究プロジェクトの成果にもとづく発表を行った。また、発表にもとづき、Proceedingsに論文を発表した。
薬剤・医薬は、今日の医療人類学での主要な関心対象の一つとなりつつあるが、多くの研究は、限られた種類の薬剤・医薬を対象とし、また、生への薬剤・医薬の浸透を「医療化」の延長で捉えるものである。本研究では、こうした多様な薬剤・医薬を対象とし、「医療化」という概念ではとらえきれない生の変容を明らかにし、それらを分析するための新たな視点を提供しえたことが、本研究の成果であると言える。
