Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We have conducted three behavioral experiments and two pilot studies, one fMRI and one with Parkinsonian patients on the topic of the role of attention in evaluative decision-making. The behavioral studies showed several important results. First, it was established that the role of visual attention in preference formation is conditional, such that visual attention leads to increased liking only 1) during self-determination of viewing time, and 2) when the evaluation reflects a selective choice with restriction on the number of items that can receive a positive evaluation. Second, it was found that predictive cues influence the evaluation in accordance with prospect theory, but not reward prediction error. Particularly, the evaluations tend to follow and extend the predictions.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The behavioral studies have provided excellent data, effectively proving more revealing than had been anticipated in the proposal. In the meantime, we have moved on to neural adaptations, with fMRI research and with Parkinsonian patients. These studies are progressing as planned, with initial data collection already in progress.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Now in the third year of the project, we are planning to write up and publish the results of the behavioral studies, anticipating 3-4 articles in top tier journals. Concurrently, the data collection for the fMRI study and the Parkinsonian patient study is ongoing; we anticipate being able to complete the data collection within this third year.
