Outline of Annual Research Achievements

あらせ衛星が取得したデータを解析し、イオンと長周期地磁気脈動のドリフトバウンス共鳴現象および酸素イオントーラスの研究を行った。
2017年3月27日、4月15日に観測された長周期地磁気脈動の経度方向の波数を、複数点同時観測に基づく波の位相差から、-15~-50程度と推定した。観測された波数やイオンの共鳴エネルギーは、ドリフトバウンス共鳴理論と一致することが確認された。3月27日のイベントでは、波動のエネルギーがイオンへ移動しており、それがイオン種に依存することが明らかになった。一方、4月15日のイベントでは、磁気圏に注入された高エネルギーイオンが波動にエネルギーを与えていることが分かった。他にも、Van Allen Probes衛星によって2014年1月28日に観測されたイベントでは、同様に高エネルギーイオンの注入によって波動が励起されていた。
酸素イオントーラスについては、あらせ衛星とVan Allen Probes衛星がそれぞれ内部磁気圏の異なる場所で取得したデータを解析して、その経度方向の構造を調査した。2017年4月24日および9月12日のイベントに対し、地磁気脈動とプラズマ波動の周波数を調べたところ、朝から昼側にかけての領域では、3-4 amuに達するような平均プラズマ質量の局所的な増大が見られたのに対して、夕方側では、そうした増大は存在しなかった。この結果は、酸素イオントーラスは軸対象ではなく、朝側に偏った形をしていることを示しており、複数衛星観測により世界で初めて明らかにされたものである。さらに、平均プラズマ質量が増大している領域内では、電磁イオンサイクロトロン波動が起こっていることから、酸素イオントーラスはプラズマ波動の成長率を大きく変化させる可能性のあることが示唆された。
以上の研究成果を含め、査読付き国際学術誌に22編の論文を出版した。
