Outline of Final Research Achievements

Pyreae of Rosaceae (i.e., pear and apple) exhibit RNase-based self-incompatibility in which multiple pollen-part determinants SFBBs recognize non-self S-RNases, however, biochemical data supporting the model is not available partly because expression of recombinant SFBB protein is almost impossible.
In this study, we tested many protein expression systems and conditions, and established a SFBB protein expression system. Along with the newly developed tools for protein-protein interaction analysis, the SFBB expression will be useful for analysis of interaction between SFBB and S-RNase to gain insight into the molecular basis of self-incompatibility.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
