Outline of Final Research Achievements

We developed a technology platform for intracellular labeling of ribosomes, the protein synthesis apparatus, and for extracting the labeled ribosomes under physiological conditions, using Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the most basic model organism for eukaryotes. We also developed seed techniques that lead to methods for distinguishing different molecules of the same sequence in cells, and for analyzing indirect or transient mRNA-protein interactions. In addition, we unexpectedly found a novel phenomenon of translation initiation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
