原子層物質におけるバレースピンフォトニクスの創生と応用

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

1) 高品質原子層物質の大面積作製技術の確立:一般的な単結晶からの機械剥離法で作製できる原子層物質のサンプルサイズは、数ミクロン程度であり、その用途は物性測定に限られている。そのため将来の応用を見据えると、数100ミクロンスケールの大面積・高品質な原子層サンプル作製を化学気層堆積成長(CVD)法、分子線エピタキシ(MBE)法など様々なアプローチによって進め、作製条件の最適化などを進めた。合わせて、厳密に規定された環境(グローブボックスなどの嫌気下)で、異なる原子層同士をファンデルワールス力で重ね合わせた、高品質原子層人工ヘテロ構造の作製が可能となった。
2) 電界界効果トランジスタ(FET)構造デバイスの作製:バレースピンの制御に向けて、原子層物質中でキャリア数の精密変調や電流検出の技術が必要であり、ドライトランスファーをベースにした電界効果トランジスタ(FET)デバイス作製を進めた。これをモノカルコゲナイドなど新たな原子層物質を利用したデバイス構造にも適用し、バンド構造や光検出効率に関する新たな知見を得た。さらに、原子層ヘテロ構造での電界効果トランジスタの作製など、新規デバイスの研究を進めた。
3)原子層物質におけるバレースピンの物理:原子層物質におけるバレースピン分極とその緩和過程の物理の詳細な理解に向けて、偏光分解発光やその時間分解測定などを通じて、バレースピン分極生成や緩和を調べた。それと同時に、理論計算との比較を通して、バレースピン分極が失われる緩和メカニズムを明らかにし、バレースピン分極の制御に向けた新たな指針を得た。

Reason

高品質な原子層物質の大面積作製技術については、MBE法などによる成長など新しい成長法による研究が進展し、さらに、ヘテロ構造作製などについてもその高度化が順調に進んでいる。また本研究の柱であるバレースピンの物理の理解について、その緩和メカニズムなどが実験と理論の両面から明らかになりつつある。また、フェムト秒レーザーをベースにした時間分解測定による結果、当初の予想に反し早い時間領域(数ps)でバレースピン緩和を含む現象が明らかとなり、繰り越し手続きを行った。研究計画の当初には想定していなかった本結果を詳細に解析することで、バレースピン緩和に関する新たな知見が得られ、より高度なバレースピン制御に向けた新しい研究方向性への着想へと繋げることができた。上記を鑑みて、研究はおおむね順調に進展していると判断した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後の研究の方策として、本年度も引き続き、高品質な原子層物質の大面積作製技術、電界効果トランジスタデバイスの作製技術、に関する研究を進める。これに加え、本研究の提案であるバレースピンフォトニクスに向け重要な要素であり研究計画の柱である原子層物質におけるバレースピン分極の物理の理解を合わせて、その高度な制御に向けた研究を推し進める。
