Outline of Annual Research Achievements

土壌や水環境においてコロイドの凝集(フロック化)の理解は化学物質の動態や移動現象解析の要となる。本研究では、この点に着目し①コロイドの凝集過程のダイナミクス、②多孔質複合体の界面動電現象、③フロックの沈降とレオロジー、④濃厚コロイドの沈降分離操作、⑤微生物コロニーにおける凝集と界面動電現象、⑥フィールドの水質構造の6項目を設定し、体系的に研究を推進し、ほぼ予定通りの成果を得た。最終年度は、コロナ禍に見舞われ、当初予定した現地調査による本研究の視点の有効性の確認が実施できなかったものの、特に基礎となる①と、および微生物の関与する水処理プロセスに関係する応用的展開④に飛躍的な成果を挙げた。その概要は以下の通りである。①複数種の高分子(電解質)g)、腐植物資、ミクロゲルから構成される系においてコロイド粒子の速度論を展開し、凝集に関する阻害因子と促進因子を分子間の協同作用の視点からまとめ、凝集の5類型を整理した。また、高分子電解質の荷電密度の違いが、コロイド粒子への吸着のダイナミクスに大きく影響することを、初期に形成される吸着層厚と電気泳動移動度の観点から明らかにした。④活性汚泥法などの生物処理において、濃厚なスラッジにおいて大型の団粒状の微生物コロニー(微生物団粒)の形成が可能であり、材料、条件を変え、様々な条件下でその確認を行い、微生物造粒の出現が嫌気的条件のみならず好気的条件でも生ずることを明らかにした。これらの成果は、微生物機能のコロイド界面のダイナミクスの視点でのミメティクス、マイクロプラスチック汚染対策などの新しいタイプの汚染対策に有効であると考えられる。また、博士課程を修了し、派遣元に帰国した研究者とのオンラインを活用した交流が活発になり、コロナ禍に対応する研究組織の運営の仕方としても、新しい展開の可能性を見出すことができた。
