Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study focused on the roles of the mass media in the process of self-awareness of Russian music from the end of the 19th century, analyzing the then reports on the actual situation of Russian opera culture and the aesthetic discourse on the substance of Russian music, which were placed in different Russian journals and newspaper. It turned out that there existed close connections among old believers' private opera theaters, opera theaters of the provinces and those of surrounding areas of Russia in the context of the patronage of arts by old believers from the end of the 19th century. The mass media of Russian music circle regarded this phenomenon as nationalism of Russian music.
