Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Islamic banking has achieved a remarkable success as a service. The focus of this research is to analyze the effect of Institutions (rules and regulations) and value propositions (proposed values) on product development in Islamic banking. This research is conducted to determine the collaboration or sharing practices among the banks and customers with the strength of value co-creation by evaluating the proposed and created values in Islamic banking with the purpose of assembling modernized services. Research findings show that (1) in service system of Islamic banking customer acts as an actor. (2) Islamic banks offer less products but complex in nature that ensure co-creation. The backbone of the mechanism of value co-creation is contract-based projects that are regulated by Sharia board (Institution). (3) Islamic banks are succeeded to pass socio-economic value propositions as well as economic value propositions. (4) Islamic banking cases show similarities to the emerging modern services like crowd funding, money sharing, fair trade mark and call center service operated by the sharing service provider. The extracted design principles will become the design guidelines for business people who need to develop new services that satisfy the latest customer needs. These principles are extracted from the interviews with the regulatory body of Islamic banking in Pakistan.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
In September, 2016 I had presented my research work in a conference held in Italy: 19th QMOD conference and by giving presentation I experienced more innovative ideas based on discussion to modify my research work. After that from December 16, 2016- January 8, 2017, I had collected data by detailed interviews from three Islamic banks in Pakistan. I made interviews from top authority and product development departments regarding institutions, value propositions, and co-creation mechanism in product development. The results of data collection in Pakistan will be published in the conference.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I will present my research results in a symposium QUIS 15: The 15th International Research Symposium on Service Excellence in Management held in Porto, 12-15 June 2017. Later, I will discuss the developed theoretical model in my research with academic experts of Service Science in Japan to expand the research field in other service industries. It will generalize the extracted results and will verify or revise the developed model. Then, I will use Islamic banking design principles of services to other modern services to evaluate the base of service creation and design idea of relation between institutions and value propositions with respect to customers to design new services. Finally, I will publish my work in a journal (Journal of Service Theory and Practice- Emerald Publishing).
