Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, I tried to extract major topics and video shots from news video archives. There are many topics in the archives. It is difficult to find news topics we want. Major topics and video shots is important to browse the archives.
Key phrases and important video shots are used repeatedly in the daily news. Major topics and video shots detect by analyzing its distribution in the archive. In order to browse a huge collection of news videos, I built a prototype of news video browser.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では、多数のニュース番組を活用して、主要な話題と経過、及び話題を代表する画像・映像の獲得を目指している。様々な手がかりを用いて、単一の映像からキーフレームなどを選択する研究は数多くなされているが、複数の映像の共通要素を活用し話題を説明しうる画像・映像を選択する試みは新しい。
また、映像アーカイブなどに蓄積された多数のニュース番組を視聴する場合、放送日時や番組名、あるいはリスト表示などから番組を選択するのが一般的であるが、本研究の結果を用いると、主要な話題やその経過を概観しつつ、必要な話題を選択、視聴することが可能となる。
