Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
So far two sets of data set have been prepared for empirical evaluation of Online Teaching Materials Retrieval System. The first data set consists of audio, video, powerpoint slides, and long text materials regarding the contents of a thesis of one student of Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts. The second set consists of various high quality images and videos, which are shot according to the instructions provided at several online photography teaching sites. Some of these sites include instructional videos as well. The basic objective of preparing this data set, especially the second set, is to develop a framework for creating relationships among several heterogeneous data generated by multiple users from different geographical locations. As a result, online search materials will not be limited to be generated by a single site. This will also lead to a more unbiased contents generation framework for Online Teaching Materials.
Several of these materials have been prepared using the equipment, which were procured by using the budget allotted by this grant.
Theoretical framework has also been developed for multi-dimensional representation of synchronized media streams such as audio, video, powerpoint slides and text materials. However, no empirical evaluation has been performed so far due to the reason that there are several ambiguities that need to be clarified before applying the proposed quantum logic to our framework.

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The main reason for the delay in the scheduled plan is due to the fact that there are several anomalies that need to clarified while using the quantum logic directly to our Online Teaching Materials Retrieval Systems.We intend to clarify these anomalies in the near future.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Since experimental evaluation on multiple sources of media is expected to be more time-consuming than initially thought, we are planning to limit our experiments on a single material. The main focus of this evaluation will be on how search results presented according to quantum logic will have an impact on the interactive behaviour of various online users accessing teaching materials. This will lead us to formulate a better ranking mechanism for our online teaching materials retrieval system in the future.

Causes of Carryover |
The budget was allocated as travel expenses to attend "the 40th International ACM SIGIR Conference on Research and Development in Information Retrieval" that was held in Tokyo in August 2017. But this had to be cancelled due to the overlapping of the schedules between the conference itself and the semester-end-exam in the Kurashiki Unversity of Science and the Arts. The remaining budget is planned to be used for research meetings with several professors in Kyoto University in the next fiscal year.
