Keywords | Hydrologic response / Land use change / Soil moisture / Gully-head retreat |
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Relationship between groundwater level and gully head-retreat as influenced by gully management was established for Guder watershed in northwest Ethiopia: improved vegetation in 2019 has enhanced groundwater recharge that contributed for subsurface-water triggered gully erosion, which is unintended consequence of land management. Paper presented at the 8th International Symposium on Gully Erosion, Townsville,(Jul. 2019), titled “Comprehensive gully erosion characterization, monitoring and modelling: case studies from three contrasting sites in the Upper Blue Nile basin.” Paper presented at the American Geophysical Union, San Francisco, (Dec. 2019): Overview of global SLM: A review on its distribution, successes and failures and its implications towards achieving a land degradation neutral world.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Overall, the project went smoothly thanks to the coordinated effort done from the Ethiopian and Japanese side researchers. However, the planned trip to Ispra Italy to participate at an international workshop being organized by European Commission in March 16-18, 2020 has been cancelled due to covid-19 pandemic.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
we will buy Statistical software to analyze the data acquired through the project using the transferred money from FY 2019 to FY2020 about 188, 000 JPY which was planned to be used for the trip to Italy last March.
|
Causes of Carryover |
the planned trip to Ispra Italy to participate at an international workshop being organized by European Commission in March 16-18, 2020 has been cancelled due to covid-19 pandemic.
