Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study I have considered Maruyama Masao's thought in the history of postwar Japan, and investigated details of the University of Tokyo Struggle in 1968-1969. I published the results of this study as a book 'Maruyama Masao and Postwar Democracy.' In this book I clarified that Maruyama who had advocated democracy in postwar Japan, did not fully understand the young people who were irritated at sham democracy in the late 1960s, and why he argued against students' blockade of professor's offices as "even Nazis did not do that," and so on. Although I concluded that even excellent intellectual may reach an impasse, I tried to inherit critically Maruyama's thought.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
