Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study clarified the concrete contributions of a music lover to composers in Vienna in the 19th century. Friedrich Eckstein, a Jewish business owner, directly supported Anton Bruckner and Hugo Wolf through various activities, both material and creative. Eckstein also attempted to place Bruckner’s music theory in its proper historical context when he left the content of the theory he learned from Bruckner in unpublished writings.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では、19世紀ウィーンにおける音楽愛好家の活動を具体的な事例から検討することで、作曲者が主で、愛好家が従なのではなく、双方が異なる立場から当時の音楽文化を共に創り上げたという考えにより、音楽愛好家が当時の音楽の発展に果たした役割を明確にすることができた。また、愛好家側の資料を考察することで、ブルックナーの音楽理論研究と、ヴォルフの人物像、並びに書簡内容研究の充実を図ることができた。
