Outline of Final Research Achievements

The aim of this project is to study historical development of excerpt performance formats of Noh music and to make clear their significance in present-day Noh.This project's are:(1)development of excerpt performance formats of Noh at Kamigata area in the middle of Edo period,(2)historical aspects of teaching and leaning of Noh and recital forms of Noh,(3)historical aspects of iccho format's performance practice,(4)musical change of utai songs from the middle of Edo period to the modern times, (5)excerpt performance formats in modern times and roles of amateurs in modern history of Noh,and (6)study of original teaching materials utilizing excerpt performance formats of Noh music.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

能は深い精神性と高い芸術性を備えた舞台芸術だが、もう一方の側面として、座敷芸や稽古事として身近に享受され隆盛した長い歴史がある。世阿弥が「内にての音曲」と語っている、謡や舞による略式演奏がそれである。が、略式演奏の歴史と意義に焦点をあてた研究は未だ少ない。本研究では、玄人の略式演奏、および日常的な音楽としての素人の略式演奏各々のあり方と、社会変化や能楽組織とこれらの重層的な関わりを論じた。また音階や音進行等の音楽上の変化や演奏形態の変化について新知見を発表した。研究成果を踏まえ、略式演奏の自由性を活かした普及教材の研究や、諸芸道書の横断的研究に発展させている。
