Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This fiscal year we made substantial progress on the goals of this project. The Principal Investigator I received a contract for a single-authored volume on the project topic from Oxford University Press and finished most of the manuscript, which will be submitted (and hopefully published) during the last fiscal year of the project, in addition to a proposal for co-editing two edited volumes on related issues, as well as a number of papers in press (and three published), as well as 10 talks at international venues and two conferences organized. The co-investigator was also active in the research domain, giving a number of talks and publishing a number of papers.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The Principal Investigator's work on Japanese and Thai honorifics has yielded results more quickly than anticipated, leading to a nearly completed book project. The resulting analysis exhibits a great deal of promise for extension to other, currently poorly understood, domains of semantics and pragmatics.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
This fiscal year, we anticipate presenting work at many international venues and publishing substantial results related to the project, most of all in the single-authored book on the project topic by the PI to appear this fiscal year from Oxford University Press. Results from this book will be submitted to prestigious international conferences, and will be presented at a conference in Paris and at the Linguistic Society of Korea, at which the PI is an invited speaker.
