Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In FY2018, the final year of the project, a great deal of progress was made on the themes of the project. The analysis of honorification was completed, as planned, and the analysis of slurs and gender greatly advanced (a paper about this will appear in an international journal in FY2019, as well as another in a volume to appear). In terms of output, the PI completed a book on politeness and honorification in Japanese and Thai, the main languages of the project, which is due to be released from Oxford University Press in August 2019. The analysis proposed in this book is the first full formal analysis of Japanese honorification. In addition, she published one refereed publication in an international volume, and was involved in the delivery of 2 presentations at international conferences, as well as 9 invited talks (8 outside Japan).
