Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The main goals for the second year of the project were all completed. The main task was to promote the project among the community of language teachers in Japan, recruit interested teachers, provided a detailed overview of the commitments, and then finalize a list of teachers. The project was promoted through four oral presentations and one poster presentation at local conferences. Additional recruitment took place through teacher networks. A total of 38 teachers expressed written interest in the project and 32 committed to participate, which exceeds the target of 30 teachers. Participating teachers were introduced to a project coordination site, completed introductory tasks, and provided critical information for project record keeping and decisions about the use of the budget.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Most of the steps and goals of the project were completed on schedule. These were described in the previous section. A payment for access to online English reader library for the teachers and their students was delayed until the start of 2018. This will not cause any delays in the project goals.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
2018 will be the busiest of the grant period as it is the one-year period that participating teachers will conduct research in all of their classrooms, participate in the training sessions for quantitative methods, and collaborate throughout the process through the online project site. I will provide instruction and guidance throughout the process. A major task will be coordinating the participation of approximately 1,000 students from the project teachers' classrooms using the online library system. After teachers collect the data in the spring, they will work on data analysis and writing manuscripts in the fall.
|
Causes of Carryover |
There has been an unused budget amount of 1,041,049円. This is primarily due to the delayed payment for the online library service for approximately 1,000 students participating in the research. The delay was necessary to have the subscriptions run entirely in the 2018 fiscal year. It does not negatively affect the project operation in any way.
