Outline of Annual Research Achievements

We completed the cross over research studies of the efficacy of cultural familiarity in language education with all 4 skills showing positive language gains when culturally familiar materials were used. Furthermore, we added a thread to our research to gauge student interest and have demonstrated positive correlation with culturally familiar materials and student interest. We presented our research in several conferences. We had two papers published in peer-reviewed international journals, we have several papers in press or under review. We have made considerable progress on two textbook projects.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

While we have had some delay in our textbook development and the publication of our results, the project is progressing smoothly and has yielded positive and important results.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

In 2019 we plan to publish two textbooks, complete our research project, and publish our results in peer-reviewed, international publications.

Causes of Carryover

We plan to use a considerable part of the remainder of our funds for textbook publication and a symposium to present our final results.
