Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Based on our investigation and research result covering the archaeological sites of the Three Kingdoms period in the southwestern part of the Korean Peninsula, this project identified the historical meaning of round keyhole tombs built from the late fifth to early sixth centuries from the perspective of the group that founded their political powers in the Yeongsan River basin society. We also revealed that the relationship between the group that built round keyhole tombs and the original locals who built pre-existing style of tombs was a “concurrent” one involving both confrontation and cooperation. This finding suggests that the Yeongsan River basin society strategically adopted round keyhole tombs in order to respond to the Baekje movement of integrating societies in the peninsula.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
