Outline of Annual Research Achievements

In the second year of my research, I achieved what I had originally planned for this year. First, I completed the list of the largest business groups within the nations that are the target of my study. Second, I examined the strategies and structures and the evolution of those for the largest business groups in my sample. Then, I analyzed the specific market and institutional environment to shape the strategies and structures of business groups in a systematized way. When I needed more data for the analyses, I did gather qualitative and quantitative data as necessary. As a result, I could finish the publication of my book by Oxford University Press. Furthermore, I published a journal article at Oxford Encyclopedia of Business and Management. I also submitted two new manuscripts to an international journal and edited book.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

The research is progressing as planned at the current moment.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

In the final year of my research, I aim to finish the publication of my articles. First is on the comparative strategies, structures and control styles of diversified business groups. I especially focus on the internationalization strategy. Second, I aim to finish my current article and Special Issue on the corporate social responsibility of business groups in developed and developing economies. Finally, I aim to write a more theoretical paper in which I explain the resilience of business groups by integrating the environmental and organizational forces I have outlined in the first and second years of this research. This piece will focus on the contemporary developed economy business groups that have stayed resilient despite the many changes in their institutional context.

Causes of Carryover

I will use the remaining research fund to hire research assistants for my study. I will also need funds for copyediting my papers. I also plan to present my papers in domestic and international seminars; and collaborate with colleagues in other universities.
